Doing Business Today

People are asking, “What do I need to do for my business to grow in this economy?”  That question is similar to the one asked of the great entertainer Steve Martin.  Fans ask him, “What do I have to do to be successful in Hollywood?”  Steve and I answer the same way, “Be so good that they can’t ignore you.”  Who does the they refer to?  The they refers to everyone with whom you come into contact.

Google Steve Martin.  Watch a few of his performances.  You will see a man who has perfected his craft.  Obviously, success will not come if you are not very good at what you do.  Secondly, Steve is a wonderful communicator.  He’s not loud.  He’s not boastful.  He is, however, aware of his surroundings and he conducts himself accordingly.  He is also visible on several platforms – out front in music, television, movies, publishing.  Behind the scenes directing, producing, purchasing.  He, and his team, quietly go about the job of creating a quiet storm of competence.  And just about everyone (there are always a few people who can never be satisfied) with whom Steve and his team come into contact love being in their company because they are so consistently good.

When we create an expectation in a customer’s mind and we support his expectation by being so good at what we do, we have created a strong bond.  It is the strength of that bond that enables our business to succeed in good times and in bad.  To read more stories of success and to learn how you can build a business that will thrive in good times and in bad, visit our on-line store and purchase a copy of Outfluence, The Better Way to Influence – you will receive it in the mail –  or download an electronic version and begin right now!
