About Outfluence

Outfluence® is a communication model focused on humanity, dignity and contribution. Through others-focused communication we care for others, we earn respect, and we contribute to the good of our communities. The three primary concepts of Outfluence are:

  • Silent Communication: how you communicate without speaking.

  • Constant Messaging: how all the senses receive communication, whether sent intentionally or unintentionally.

  • Inspired Performance: how to make your everyday activities more effective and meaningful.

Our Workplace Readiness Program

Developed specifically for high school seniors entering the workforce, Workplace Readiness teaches high school seniors the soft skills needed to focus on others and listen with purpose. But we don’t stop there.

Meeting employment expectations, inspiring job performance, and looking ahead to giving back to the community, this program sets students up to enter the workforce and be successful employees.

From what to expect during an interview to the impact of silent communication — students get a head start on successful “adulting.” Learn about the five sessions included in the program below.

Focusing on Others

We will talk about always considering the other person’s perspective and the reason for it. We will learn how to focus on the needs of others and what we can do to be supportive through silent communicators. We will identify what silent communication is (90% of all communication happens silently). We will conclude with examples of focusing on others in the workplace.

Listening with Purpose

The workplace is built on leadership and ‘follower-ship.’ We will identify the roles of each. Listening with the purpose of absorbing, understanding and performing is critical to the success of a company’s mission. Leaders and followers work in teams. Team success is directly related to individual success. Success relies on listening with purpose. We will conclude with examples of how to listen with purpose.

Expectations

Every job in every company comes with expectations for every employee in those jobs. If the goal of an employee is to keep his or her job they must meet the expectations. If the goal of an employee is to advance in the company, the employee must learn how to inspire his or her performance. The great comedian Steve Martin said, when asked how to become a great performer, “be so good that they can’t ignore you.” We will conclude with examples of how to inspire performance.

Essential Skills

The workplace exists to service the needs of customers. The way that is accomplished is by developing essential skills known as the soft skills. We will identify soft skills and talk about how to creatively, sincerely and thoughtfully use the soft skills to win with customers. We will conclude with a discussion of three essential skills (the greeting, being in the moment, listening) that are a part of every customer interaction.

Community Involvement

We will learn about the many communities with which we engage throughout our life. In each community we represent not only ourselves but also our employers. We will focus on communities that our employers may ask us to become involved in on behalf of the company – why would an employee be asked to join a community, what are the expectations, what is my reward, what if I refuse. We will discuss why communities rely on the support of people from the workplace. We will conclude by identifying organizations that are important to the community and why we should want to volunteer to support them.
